Kenneth Grahame

Kenneth Grahame nasceu na cidade de Edimburgo, na Escócia, em 1859. Quando tinha quatro anos de idade, mudou-se com a família para uma vila costeira, Inverary. Segundo as suas próprias palavras, a sua vida e a nova casa faziam-no sentir-se feliz e seguro. No entanto, um ano depois, tudo mudaria: morreria a mãe e o pai deixá-lo-ia, juntamente com os seus três irmãos, a cargo da avó materna, que os educaria num lugar idílico, à beira do rio Tamisa, no sul de Inglaterra. Grahame não pôde concretizar o seu desejo de estudar na Universidade de Oxford. Em vez disso, tornou-se funcionário do Banco de Inglaterra, conciliando a profissão com a actividade que mais lhe interessava: a escrita. As suas histórias foram publicadas em vários periódicos e o seu nome conquistou a fama através das obras The Golden Age, Dream Days e, definitivamente, O Vento nos Salgueiros, publicado pela primeira vez em 1908. Grahame faleceu em julho de 1932.
