Using secondary data on anchovy catches and Chl-a concentrations as a measure of phytoplankton biomass, the study examines the spatial and temporal variation of this biomass in the eastern parts of the Unguja and Pemba Channels and its impact on fisheries. Chl-a concentrations were found to be higher in Unguja than in Pemba, with significant differences between seasons. Interestingly, anchovy catches were higher in the Pemba Channel, with the correlation between Chl-a and anchovy catches being positive but not significant. These results provide important insights for fisheries science and the protection of marine ecosystems.

The objective of this master thesis is to examine: 'What constitutes the food crisis in Kakamega County, Kenya?'. Climate change, the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, and the COVID-19 pandemic were the main global crises considered in the research in this thesis. The data were collected during a three-week research stay in Kakamega County, which was supported by the German NGO Welthungerhilfe. Kakamega County in Western Kenya is of particular interest because it is part of the so-called 'food basket' of Kenya which is considered to be the fertile region of the country. The main method was set on interviews with different actors in the local food system. These revealed the current state of food security in Kakamega County, the factors influencing it and the different coping strategies. For the interpretation of the results the main concept of food security was applied: It examines the food availability, access to food, its utilization and stability. The conceptual work was completed with the critical view of political ecology and vulnerability approaches.

This comes after many rural households were already in dire straits facing high fertilizer charges and the impact of increasing world food prices. To aggravate the matters, the calamitous monsoon floods of 2010 overblown more than 22 million people, their homelands, structure and harvests. It has been estimated that this single flood caused around US$10 billion in damage, about partial of which was due to fatalities in the agricultural division. Introduction: The Indus Basin has a long and lively history of growth and alteration in irrigation. The settlements of the Harappan evolution in the Indus Valley date back five millennia. During the monsoon season, traces of flood channels remain that cut through the floodplains and allowed the inundation of agricultural fuel, food and minor crops within the riparian corridor. One of the largest dams, the so-called Gabarbands, dam water in torrents and branch catchment areas. Urban toilets and manure systems which aided cities such as Mohenjo-Daro in the Pakistan, Sindh s lower Indus River section. such smaller cities and were discovered in the 2nd millennium BC. Abandoned due to overflowing of river, salinization, and changes in riverbeds. It further examines the environmental degradation caused by these settlements and the availability of basic infrastructures within them. The study employs a mixed-method approach, incorporating surveys, structured interviews, and field observations. A total of 95 households from three sub-cities were randomly sampled, and six key informants were purposefully selected for interviews. The study concludes with recommendations for improving the land management system, increasing land plot supply, advancing the condominium housing program, and regularizing existing informal settlements.

The aim of this study is to evaluate environmental regulatory bodies and facilities' compliance to environmental regulations in Minna, Nigeria. The objectives among others are: identify the facilities that required compliance; examine the level of compliance of the facilities; determine the level of enforcement by regulatory agencies (NESREA and NISEPA); and identify factors militating against compliance within the facilities in the study area. Systematic random sampling was used in selecting facilities, while purposive random sampling was adopted in selecting respondents from each facility. Simple random sampling was employed in selecting respondents from the regulatory agencies. The instrument for data collection from the respondents is a semi-structured two sets of questionnaire, each for facility and regulators respectively.
