SOBRE O AUTOR
Antoine Compagnon
Nascido em 1950, Antoine Compagnon ensinou na Sorbonne e na Universidade Columbia de Nova Iorque. É, desde 2006, Professor Catedrático de Literatura Francesa Moderna e Contemporânea: história, crítica, teoria no Collège de France. É nomeadamente o autor de La Troisième République des Lettres (1983), Les cinq Paradoxes de la Modernité (1990) e Les Antimodernes, de Joseph de Maistre à Roland Barthes (2005). Depois de ter leccionado na Universidade de Vincennes e na Escola Prática de Ciências Sociais, e de ter fundado, conjuntamente com o ex-Presidente da República François Mitterrand, o Festival de Ópera e Teatro Barroco de Versalhes, ascendeu, em 1990, ao cargo de secretário-geral do serviço literário da Gallimard. No entanto, em 1994, abandonou todas as suas funções para se dedicar inteiramente à escrita. Da sua obra mais tardia destacam-se Tous Les Matins du Monde (1991-1993, Todas as Manhãs do Mundo), romance que mereceu uma adaptação para o cinema pela mão do realizador francês Alain Corneau, no ano de 1991, e que contava a história da vida do músico Marin Marais; L'Occupation Americaine (1994-1996, A Ocupação Americana ) e Dernier Royaume (2002).
