S. Mark Young é titular da cátedra George Bozanic e Holman G. Hurt, em Esportes e Negócios de Entretenimento. É também professor de Contabilidade, Administração e Organização na Marshall School of Business, University of Southern California (USC), de Comunicação e Jornalismo na Annemberg School for Communication da USC, onde é fellow com distinção do Center for Excellence in Teaching. É graduado em Economia pelo Oberlin College e Ph.D. pela University of Pittsburgh.

Foi condecorado várias vezes por ensino notável, incluindo o Golden Apple Teaching Award e o prêmio Jim Bulloch por inovações em educação contábil gerencial em 2005. Em 2006, dividiu o prêmio Notable Contribution to the Accounting Literature (com Shannon Anderson) e ganhou duas vezes o Notable Contributions to the Management Accounting Literature – com Frank Selto (1994) e Shannon Anderson (2003).
