John Stanislaus Joyce

A biography of the father of James Joyce, a Fenian, Parnellite and drunk who claimed to have cured himself of syphilis. James was the eldest of seventeen children and his father's only heir, owing to John Joyce's strong belief in the rights of primogeniture. He was the most important person in James's life and strongly influenced his fiction.
