These French Provincial designs represent the highest achievement of the French textile industry, centered in Alsace, at the turn of the nineteenth century. Called bonnes herbes (literally "good grasses"), the gaily-colored, fresh floral patterns were extremely successful in helping to establish the worldwide pre-eminence of French textiles.
