Este livro contém cenas fortes e bastante gráficas que podem ser demasiado intensas para alguns. Aconselho vivamente a ler a lista de trigger warnings e pesquisar sobre a triologia antes de fazer a compra. Fazendo uma breve sinopse: neste livro o protagonista, Damen, príncipe herdeiro de Akielos, é traído pelo seu irmão bastardo e enviado como escravo para o enimigo histórico de Akielos, o país vizinho Vere. Agora um escravo num ambiente hostil, Damen será forçado a navegar os costumes depravados e exóticos da corte de Vere, sem revelar a sua identidade como Damianos, príncipe de Akielos e assassino do amado príncipe Auguste de Vere. Para escapar ele terá que primeiro sobreviver a este ninho de víboras e às maquinações cruéis do novo príncipe herdeiro, o irmão mais novo de Auguste, Laurent. Este livro não é um dark romance, as cenas presentes neste livro não são escritas com o intuito de ser éroticas, mas sim o de chocar o leitor, não devendo ser romantizadas. Apesar de, na minha opinião, a autora ter conseguido concretizar esse objectivo, a interpretação pode variar de leitor para leitor, sendo por isso um livro muito polarizante. Dos 3 livros este é o que tem o plot menos desenvolvido, funcionando melhor se for visto como uma introdução ao segundo livro, do que como uma entidade separada deste. O desenvolvimento dos personagens neste primeiro livro é muito superficial, mas é o suficiente para despertar a curiosidade do leitor. Nada é o que parece na corte de Vere e apesar de todos os problemas presentes neste livro não consigo dar-lhe menos de 4 estrelas.
