John Forster (1812-76), an exact contemporary of Charles Dickens, was one of his closest friends and literary advisors, and was ideally placed to write his biography. Foster's three-volume account was published between 1872 and 1874; this reissue reproduces editions from those years including the first edition of Volume 3.
