SOBRE O AUTOR
Ulrich Alexander Boschwitz
Ulrich Alexander Boschwitz nasceu em Berlim em 1915. Emigrou para a Escandinávia em 1935, onde publicaria o seu romance de estreia, Menschen neben dem Leben, graças ao qual pôde depois mudar-se para Paris e estudar na Universidade de Sorbonne. Após um período na Bélgica e no Luxemburgo, seguiu para o exílio em Inglaterra na companhia da mãe.
É na sequência da Noite de Cristal, em 1938, que escreve, em apenas quatro semanas, O Passageiro, um romance de traços autobiográficos que seria de imediato traduzido para língua inglesa, numa versão não definitiva. Com a eclosão da Segunda Guerra Mundial, Boschwitz foi enviado para a Austrália onde viveu num campo de internamento.
Em 1942, teve autorização para regressar a Inglaterra, mas o navio onde viajava foi atingido por um torpedo alemão ao largo da costa dos Açores, causando a morte de todos os ocupantes. Boschwitz tinha vinte e sete anos.
