Sophie Irwin cresceu em Dorset, antes de se mudar para o sul de Londres depois da Universidade. Passou anos imersa no estudo da ficção histórica, que serviu de pesquisa para este livro, nomeadamente analisou uma dissertação sobre como Georgette Heyer ajudou a vencer a Segunda Guerra Mundial e debruçou-se sobre pilhas empoeiradas de volumes antigos, perdendo-se no período regencial londrino. Acredita que as comédias românticas são o melhor tipo de livros que existe, pois fazem-nos felizes. Sophie trabalhou durante vários anos como assistente editorial, antes de se tornar freelancer.
