ABOUT THE ARTIST

Machine Head

Machine Head is an American metal band formed in Oakland, California in 1991 by vocalist and guitarist Robb Flynn and bassist Adam Duce. The band is known for its heavy and aggressive sound, which mixes elements of thrash metal, groove metal, and nu metal. Throughout their career, Machine Head has become one of the most respected and influential bands in modern metal.

The band's debut album, "Burn My Eyes," was released in 1994 and quickly established Machine Head as a force in the metal scene. The album was a critical and commercial success, driven by powerful tracks like "Davidian" and "Old." "Burn My Eyes" is often cited as one of the most influential metal albums of the '90s, being particularly praised for its heavy production and dark lyrics that address themes of violence, despair, and alienation.

In 1997, Machine Head released their second album, "The More Things Change...," which continued to explore the band's heavy and aggressive sound. The album included tracks such as "Ten Ton Hammer" and "Take My Scars," which helped cement the band's reputation in the metal world.

In the following years, Machine Head went through several changes in style and lineup. The album "The Burning Red" (1999) introduced elements of nu metal and rap metal, which divided the opinion of fans and critics. Although the album spawned some hits, such as "From This Day," the change in sound was seen by some as an attempt to align with the musical trends of the time.

In 2001, the band released "Supercharger," which continued to explore nu metal influences. However, this album was less well received and marked a difficult period for the band, both creatively and commercially.

Machine Head returned to his thrash and groove metal roots with the release of "Through the Ashes of Empires" in 2003, which was widely seen as a return to form. This album revitalized the band, featuring tracks such as "Imperium" and "Days Turn Blue to Gray," which received acclaim from fans and critics alike.

The album "The Blackening," released in 2007, is often considered one of the band's best albums and a classic of modern metal. With epic tracks such as "Aesthetics of Hate," "Halo" and "Clenching the Fists of Dissent," the album was praised for its complexity, musicality and deep lyrics. "The Blackening" helped re-establish Machine Head as one of the leading forces in contemporary metal.

In the following years, Machine Head continued to release albums that explored different styles and approaches within metal. "Unto the Locust" (2011) and "Bloodstone & Diamonds" (2014) were both well-received, highlighting the band's ability to innovate while staying true to their roots.

In 2018, the band released "Catharsis," an album that divided opinions for its more accessible and experimental approach. Although it sparked debate among fans, the album still managed to achieve commercial success.

Machine Head has gone through several lineup changes over the years, with Robb Flynn being the only constant member. The band continued to tour extensively and perform intense and energetic live shows, cementing their reputation as one of the best live metal bands.

With a career marked by ups and downs, innovations, and an unwavering dedication to metal, Machine Head continues to be a powerful presence in the heavy music scene. Their ability to evolve and face challenges over the years secures their place as one of the most important and respected bands in modern metal.
