Trovante was one of the most important and influential bands in Portuguese music, especially known for its role in the post-April 25th musical movement and for how it managed to combine popular and traditional Portuguese music with rock and protest music. Formed in 1976 in Lisbon, the band marked several generations with its songs, which reflected both the hopes and dreams of a changing country and the personal and universal feelings of its members.

The initial lineup of Trovante included Luís Represas (vocals and guitar), João Gil (guitar and composition), Manuel Faria (keyboards and accordion), Artur Costa (drums), and José Martins (bass). Later, other musicians joined the band, including João Nuno Represas (flutes) and Fernando Júdice (bass), enriching the group's sound with greater instrumental diversity.

Trovante began as a musical group linked to the student and associative movement, in a post-revolutionary period in which protest music played a crucial role in Portuguese society. Their first album, Chão Nosso (1977), reflected these concerns, with songs that addressed social and political themes, in a mixture of Portuguese popular music with new sounds.

Throughout the 1980s, Trovante evolved musically, gradually moving away from protest music and embracing a more pop-rock sound, without ever losing its poetic character and commitment to Portuguese cultural roots. Albums such as Baile no Bosque (1981) and Cais das Colinas (1983) showed this transition, with songs that spoke of love, longing, and everyday life, always with a lyrical richness that characterized the group.

The band's big break came with the album Sepes (1986), which featured the iconic song "125 Azul". This song became one of the biggest hits in Portuguese music and remains a mandatory reference point when discussing the band. "125 Azul" not only captured the essence of Portuguese youth at the time but also became an anthem of freedom and travel, both literally and metaphorically.

In 1987, Trovante released the album Terra Firme, which further consolidated their success. The album included songs such as "Perigo," "Timor," and "Saudade," which became true classics. This work stood out for the band's maturity, both musically and lyrically, and was received with great acclaim from both critics and the public.

One of the most memorable moments in Trovante's career was the show at Estádio de Alvalade in 1988, which attracted a huge crowd of fans and demonstrated the band's impact and popularity in Portugal. This show was recorded on the live album Ao Vivo no Campo Pequeno (1988), which captured the band's energy and connection with their audience.

In 1990, the band released the album Um Destes Dias..., Um Poeta, which continued to explore personal and social themes with the depth and sensitivity that characterized them. However, in the early 1990s, the band decided to cease its activity, with its members pursuing solo projects. Luís Represas, for example, pursued a highly successful solo career, continuing to be a prominent figure in Portuguese music.

Trovante occasionally reunited for special shows, such as the concert at the Pavilhão Atlântico in 1999, which marked the band's reunion and a celebration of their legacy. Trovante's impact on Portuguese music remains profound, and their songs are still listened to and celebrated by several generations.

Trovante's legacy is undeniable. They managed to create a bridge between popular music and rock, between tradition and modernity, and between protest music and songs of love and longing. Their ability to evolve over time, always maintaining a strong connection to their cultural roots, has made them one of the most beloved and respected bands in Portugal.
