ABOUT THE ARTIST

Leprous

Leprous is a Norwegian progressive metal band formed in 2001 in Notodden, Norway. The band is known for its ability to blend elements of progressive metal, alternative rock, and electronic music, creating a unique and emotionally charged sound that challenges the conventions of traditional progressive metal.

The band's original lineup included Einar Solberg (vocals and keyboards), Tor Oddmund Suhrke (guitar and vocals), Øystein Landsverk (guitar), Rein Blomquist (bass), and Tobias Ørnes Andersen (drums). Einar Solberg, as vocalist and main songwriter, became the central figure in the band's sound, known for his dynamic and expressive vocal abilities, as well as his skill in creating complex and atmospheric soundscapes.

The band's debut album, Tall Poppy Syndrome (2009), helped establish Leprous as an emerging force in the progressive metal scene. The album combined intricate riffs and atmospheric passages with emotional vocals, highlighting the band's ability to create music that is both technical and accessible.

It was with the release of Bilateral (2011) that Leprous began to gain greater international recognition. This album stood out for its stylistic diversity, combining elements of technical metal with influences from jazz, pop, and electronic music. Tracks like "Restless" and "Thorn" demonstrated the band's ability to explore different textures and dynamics within a progressive structure.

In 2013, Leprous released Coal, an album that was critically acclaimed for its emotional depth and sonic experimentation. The album is characterized by a darker, more introspective atmosphere, with tracks like "The Cloak" and "The Valley" exploring themes of suffering and redemption. The band continued to explore new directions with The Congregation (2015), which featured a more polished production and a more focused approach on melodies and complex structures.

Malina (2017) marked another evolution in Leprous' sound, incorporating influences from alternative rock and electronic music while maintaining a focus on progressive compositions. This album, with tracks like "Stuck" and "From the Flame," received praise for its accessibility and innovation. The band followed with Pitfalls (2019), an album that further explored emotional depth, addressing themes of mental health and introspection, with a more minimalist and atmospheric sound.

The band's latest album, Aphelion (2021), continues to showcase Leprous' ability to evolve and defy expectations, blending elements of metal, progressive rock and electronic music to create a unique and captivating sonic experience.

Leprous is known for its intense and thrilling live performances, often highlighting Einar Solberg's vocal versatility and the band members' technical skill. With a career that continues to challenge conventions and push the boundaries of progressive metal, Leprous has solidified its position as one of the genre's most innovative and respected bands.
