ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Mircea Eliade

Mircea Eliade (1907 - 1986) was born in Bucharest, Romania, where he completed his early university studies. After graduating in philosophy, he went to India. There he studied Sanskrit and Southeast Asian philosophies under the guidance of Surendranath Dasgupta, Professor Emeritus of the University of Calcutta and one of the most illustrious thinkers of the time.
His research in India was not limited to academic settings; he travelled and resided for extended periods in the region. ashrams most important in the Ganges region. The documentation gathered, especially regarding Yoga, became his doctoral thesis, published in French in 1936.
From then on, Mircea Eliade gained renown as a professor of the History of Religions, and was invited to teach at the University of Bucharest. École des Hautes Études de la Sorbonne, Jung Institute from Zurich and finally, at the University of Chicago. Among his numerous writings, we highlight The Myth of Eternal Return, Treatise on the History of Religions and The Sacred and the Profane.
Mircea Allyade is undoubtedly one of the greatest historians of religions in the world. Familiar with the universe of symbols, myths, and magical rites, he systematically seeks to bring Eastern and Western philosophies closer together.
