ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Doreen Valiente

Doreen Valiente lived in Brighton, Sussex. She was the wife of a freedom fighter during the Spanish Civil War. Of English descent, her family originated from the New Forest region of Hampshire and Cerne Abbas, Dorset, famous for its hill with a figure in the form of a giant fertility goddess.
She was a practicing witch and a believer in her convictions within Witchcraft, having been initiated into four different factions of the Old Religion in Great Britain.
She is the author of Magic Natural, Witchcraft for Tomorrow, Where Witchcraft Lives, The Rebirth of Witchcraft and Witchcraft: A Renewed Tradition, with E. J. Jones. He also wrote poetry and read some of his work before the panel of the Poetic Society in London.
Doreen Valiente gave numerous interviews on television and radio programs, discussing witchcraft and folklore, as well as displaying some items from her collection of witchcraft objects.
The author stated that she wrote the Encyclopedia of Witchcraft According to her thinking, she wanted it to be more than just another book about Witchcraft, but something different. She said: "The fact that I tend to favor the Old Religion is not denied; however, would it be wrong to write in this way, when so much has already been published showing so much prejudice? Let me assure the reader, however, that I have no intention of converting anyone; I only wish to present a different point of view. If he or she is able to find interest and pleasure in the taste of this cauldron that I have prepared, using so many varied ingredients, I will certainly feel satisfied."
The reader will certainly enrich their knowledge through this encyclopedia on Witchcraft, which Madras Editora is pleased to bring to the public interested in finding new teachings or expanding on what they already have in mind.
