William Faulkner

William Faulkner nasceu a 25 de setembro de 1897 em New Albany, Mississípi. A decadência do sul dos Estados Unidos da América, onde sempre viveu, está no centro de grande parte dos seus romances, entre os quais se destacam O Som e a Fúria (1929), Luz em Agosto (1932) e Absalão, Absalão! (1936). Distinguido com o Prémio Nobel da Literatura em 1949, recebeu por duas vezes o prémio Pulitzer de Ficção, com A Fábula (1954) e Os Ratoneiros (1962). Autor central da literatura norte-americana e um dos maiores escritores do século XX, morreu a 6 de julho de 1962.
