ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Henry James

Henry James (1843-1916), was born in New York, in the United States, into a family of intellectuals. Son of theologian Henry James Sr and brother of philosopher-psychologist William James, he was one of the most recognized authors of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. In his youth he traveled extensively between Europe and America, studying with professors from Geneva, London, Bologna, Paris, and even briefly attending Harvard Law School. He spent most of his life in Europe writing various genres such as novels, short stories, literary and artistic criticism, travel literature, biography and autobiography. He analyzed the world taking into account basic concepts such as freedom, the inner monologue and psychological drama, addressing ghost stories where he explored the tenuous border between the supernatural and the most remote areas of the human mind. Of his numerous works, Portrait of a Lady, The Europeans, The Liar and Daisy Miller, among others, stand out.
