ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Tom Sharpe

Tom Sharpe was born in London in 1928 and died in 2013. After serving in the Marine Corps, he went to live in South Africa in 1951. There he worked in social services and later in teaching in Natal. He had a photography studio in Pietermaritzburg from 1957 to 1961, the year he was deported. Returning to England, from 1963 to 1972 he was a professor of History at the Cambridge Institute of Letters and Technology. He is the author of fifteen highly successful novels, translated into more than twenty languages. In 1986 he received the XXIIIème Grand Prix de l'Humour Noir Xavier Forneret. In 2010 he was awarded the BBK La Risa de Bilbao Prize. He resided alternately in Cambridge and Catalonia.
