Laurence Sterne

Escritor inglês (1713-1768), foi pároco em Yorkshire, onde se notabilizou pela originalidade e extravagância dos seus sermões. Tornou-se um dos romancistas mais influentes da história da literatura quando escreveu The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman (A Vida e Opiniões de Tristram Shandy, 1759-1767), nele explorando ao máximo as potencialidades da forma do romance e assim antecipando algumas das técnicas que atingiriam a sua máxima expressão no romance do séc.
