ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Kenneth Clark

Kenneth McKenzie Clark was born in London in 1903. He was a writer, director of the UK museum, and one of the best-known art historians of his generation. He studied at Oxford University and specialized in art history. At the age of thirty, he was appointed director of the National Gallery, and the following year, Superintendent of Royal CollectionFrom 1946 onwards he devoted himself to writing and teaching, giving lectures at Oxford. He was Chancellor of the University of York between 1967 and 1978 and a member of the board of the British Museum. He became a prominent member of the Conservative Party and in his later years converted to Catholicism.
