ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Val McDermid

Val McDermid grew up in a mining community in Scotland and taught English at Oxford. He was a journalist for sixteen years and currently dedicates himself exclusively to writing. He lives in Manchester.
In 1995 he received the Gold Dagger award for the best crime novel of the year with The Siren Song (Gothic, 2002). Death Sentence (Gothic, 2001) was awarded the Los Angeles Time Book Prize, classified as Notable Book of the Year by the New York Times, also received the Anthony, Macavity and Dilys awards for best book and was a finalist for the Edgar Award.
Also Killing the Shadows (Gothic 2006) was elected Notable Book of the Year by the New York Times.
