Excelente Referência

Este livro serviu-me para situar-me na história da Ucrânia, especialmente na parte que cobre as origens do povo Rus e das políticas que levaram à divisão e criação das etnias ucraniana e russa. Usei-o como referência num projecto de investigação. O maior obstáculo nesta edição da Penquin será certamente a letra pequena, que poderá ser inconveniente a alguns leitores. Pessoalmente não foi, mas agora existe uma versão traduzida em PT que poderá ser melhor neste aspecto. Qualquer que seja a edição escolhida, o livro é excelente.

Aprender com a História

Ana Carvalho

Na altura em que vivemos, compreender a histórica da Ucrânia e as relações entre os povos vizinhos facilita um entendimento da complexidade do conflito. O livro aborda um período longo, desde os vikings até ao período pós-soviético, e está escrito de forma fluída e de fácil entendimento e é bastante rico em detalhes e explicações. Vale muito a pena. Faço só a ressalva que esta edição tem um tamanho de fonte muito pequeno, pelo que pessoas com dificuldade de visão deverão procurar outra edição.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Serhii Plokhy

Serhii Plokhy nasceu em 1957 na Rússia, mas passou a infância em Zaporizhzhia, na Ucrânia, para onde a família regressou logo após o seu nascimento.
Licenciado em História e Ciências Sociais pela Universidade de Dnipropetrovsk (1980) e pós-graduado em Historiografia e Estudos de Origem pela Universidade Russa da Amizade dos Povos (1982), recebeu inúmeros galardões e reconhecimentos ao longo da carreira. Entre eles contam-se o Walter Channing Cabot Fellow na Faculdade de Artes e Ciências da Universidade de Harvard (EUA, 2013), o Prémio Antonovych (Ucrânia, 2015) e o Prémio Nacional Shevchenko (Ucrânia, 2018).
Em 2007 foi nomeado o Professor Mykhailo Hrushevsky de História Ucraniana pela Universidade de Harvard, onde é também, desde 2013, diretor do Instituto Ucraniano de Investigação.
É autor de vários livros conceituados, entre os quais The Last Empire: The Final Days of the Soviet Union (em 2015, Prémio Lionel Gelber para o melhor livro de não-ficção em inglês sobre assuntos globais e Prémio Pushkin House para Livro em Russo) e Chernobyl (Prémio Baillie Gifford de 2018). A sua obra encontra-se traduzida para mais de uma dezena de idiomas.
