ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Alan Hollinghurst

Alan Hollinghurst was born in Shroud, England, in 1954 and studied at Oxford. His first novel, The Swimming Pool Library, won the Somerset Maugham Prize in 1989 and earned its author a place among the Best Young British Novelists, according to Granta magazine, in 1993. This was followed by The Folding Star, which was a finalist for the Booker Prize and won the James Tait Black Memorial Prize. His definitive consecration came in 2004, when The Line of Beauty, awarded the Man Booker Prize, was adapted for television by the BBC. Nominated for the 2011 Man Booker Prize, The Stranger's Son is his first novel in seven years and is already being acclaimed as one of the best books of the year and the decade, cementing the author's reputation as one of the leading names in Anglo-Saxon literature.
