SYNOPSIS
The book will deal with early post-war fighters, competitions for the first generation supersonic designs (MiG-21 and Su-7/9), the advanced designs of the 1960s which led to the MiG-25 and competitions to build the specifications which resulted in the MiG-29, Su-27 and MiG I-44. A number of previously unpublished Yakovlev designs from the late 1950s/early1960s will form a separate chapter, followed by another looking at Yakovlev’s VSTOL work. The book contains information on many unknown projects and will relate these to aircraft which eventually did fly.
Soviet Secret Projects Fighters Since 1945 also describes the competition between design bureau for orders and shows the progress made in aircraft design behind the Iron Curtain. It gives both experts and enthusiasts the chance to compare this work to Western aircraft programmes of the era. As with the other titles in Midland’s ‘Secret Projects’ series, this volume has many drawings and illustrations which have never previously been published. It also contains some specially commissioned renditions off 'might-have-been' types.
