Antonio Machado, Sevilha (1875-1939). Poeta e prosador espanhol, pertencente ao movimento literário conhecido como geração de 98. É provavelmente o poeta mais lido do seu tempo. Machado era um homem humilde, egocêntrico, sóbrio e profundamente sensível. Por isso se identificava tanto com o austero espírito castelhano. Mostrou até o fim da sua vida uma consequência exemplar com as suas profundas convicções. Ele estava, nas suas palavras, à altura da tarefa. Como ele mesmo disse, foi, "no bom sentido da palavra, bom".
