Antonio Machado
Antonio Machado, Seville (1875-1939). Spanish poet and prose writer, belonging to the literary movement known as the generation of 98. He is probably the most widely read poet of his time. Machado was a humble, self-centered, sober and deeply sensitive man. That is why he identified so much with the austere Castilian spirit. He showed exemplary consequence with his deep convictions until the end of his life. He was, in his words, up to the task. As he himself said, it was, "in the good sense of the word, good".
