ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Rumi

Mowlana Jalal ad-Din Balkhi Rumi (1207-1273), better known simply as Rumi, was one of the most celebrated mystics of all time and chose poetry as a way to communicate his profound spiritual experiences. Known in the Persian world as Mowlana, "our master," he circumnavigated the Middle East before settling in Konya, Anatolia.
Princes and commanders gathered around him, Christians and Jews followed him with admiration through the streets. Beggars found comfort in his presence. Few religious figures in the history of civilization have crossed boundaries of faith, language, and geography with the same agility as Rumi.
His writings have been widely translated into many languages around the world, and he has been described as the most popular and best-selling Eastern author in the West. His work influenced Persian literature, but also Turkish literature. His language, that of love in its purest form, speaks to us today as it did eight centuries ago, transcending time and uniting cultures.
