Jean Flori nasceu em Lillebonne em 1936, é medievalista e doutor em Letras e Ciências Humanas.
Foi diretor de pesquisas do Centro Nacional de Pesquisa Sociológica e trabalhou no Centro de Estudos Superiores das Civilizações Medievais de Poitiers (França).
É autor de diversos livros sobre a cavalaria, dentre eles L'idéologie du Glaive. Préhistoire de la Chevalerie; L'essor de la Chevalerie, 11ème — 12ème siècles; La Chevalerie en France au Moyen Age e Chevaliers et Chevalerie au Moyen Age.
