Geoff Dyer had always wanted to write a book about D. H. Lawrence. He wanted, in fact, to write his "Lawrence book." The problem was, he had no idea what his "Lawrence book" would be though he was determined to write a "sober academic study." Luckily for the reader, he failed miserably.

Out of Sheer Rage is a harrowing, comic, and grand act of literary deferral. At times a furious repudiation of the act of writing itself, this is not so much a book about Lawrence as a book about writing a book about Lawrence. As Lawrence wrote about his own study of Thomas Hardy, "It will be about anything but Thomas Hardy, I am afraid-queer stuff-but not bad."

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Geoff Dyer

Geoff Dyer nasceu em Cheltenham, Inglaterra, em 1958. Fez o ensino secundário na sua cidade, e os estudos superiores em Oxford (Corpus Christi College). É autor de vários romances e um dos mais originais escritores de não-ficção contemporâneos, escrevendo sobre jazz, fotografia, cinema, literatura ou viagem. Foi distinguido com numerosos prémios – Somerset Maugham, John Llewllyn Rhys Memorial Prize, National Books Critics Circle Award, E.M. Foster Award da Academia Americana das Artes e Letras, International Center of Photography Award; escritor do Ano pela revista GQ (2009), Windham Campbell Prize, na categoria de não-ficção e o Bollinger Everyman Wodehouse Prize. A Quetzal tem vindo a publicar as suas obras: Yoga Para Pessoas Que Não Estão Para Fazer Yoga (em duas edições, em 2013 e 2019); Mas é Bonito (2014); Areias Brancas (2018), Os Últimos Dias de Roger Federer e Outros Finais (2023) e, agora, Trabalho de Casa. Foi durante vinte anos professor e escritor convidado na Universidade da Califórnia. Vive em Londres.
