ABOUT THE AUTHOR

André Bazin

André Bazin (1918-1958) was one of the most influential film critics and theorists of the 20th century.
Born in 1918, André Bazin would become one of the most influential film critics of the post-war period – despite his premature death at the age of 40 – highly respected by filmmakers and all those who maintain a close connection with cinema. His opinions were heeded even when he focused on films considered minor, such was the fecundity and intelligence of the critical considerations he delivered orally or in writing.
Bazin was one of the co-founders of Cahiers du Cinéma, where he worked as chief editor for nearly a decade until his death, and is considered one of the spiritual fathers of Nouvelle Vague, which developed soon after his death. Alongside this activity, he gave several lectures to the students of Institut des Hautes Études Cinématographiques and organized numerous film clubs to broaden the possibility for everyone to have access to the seventh art.
He is the author of, among other works, Orson Welles, Vittorio de Sica and of Jean Renoirin addition to numerous articles and essays.
