Ontem à Noite

He was born on June 20, 1921, in Faro. He studied there until the 6th year of high school (equivalent to the 10th year of schooling today). From 1937 onwards, he lived in Lisbon, where he obtained a degree in Mathematical Sciences from the University of Lisbon. He belonged to the first course of Portuguese meteorologists and joined the National Meteorological Service at its inception in 1946. His work took him to the Azores, where he stayed for two years, to Mozambique - 6 years - and also to East Timor (2 years). From a very young age, he collaborated with various newspapers and magazines, having published his first book of poems in 1940. Only after the age of 50 did he dedicate himself to literature for young people; he died in Odiáxere, near Lagos, in 1996.
