ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Viktor E. Frankl

Viktor E. Frankl was the founder of the psychotherapeutic school called "Logotherapy and Existential Analysis", which is considered by many authors to be the "third school of Viennese psychotherapy", after Sigmund Freud's Psychoanalysis and Alfred Adler's "Individual Psychology". He is one of the most prominent authors and clinicians in the history of psychotherapy and the author of some of the most original reflections on the human condition. Of Jewish origin, he was born in 1905 in Vienna, having been interested in Psychiatry and Psychotherapy from an early age. He graduated in Medicine at the University of Vienna and specialized in Neurology and Psychiatry. In 1942, Viktor Frankl, his wife, Tilly, his brother, Walter, and his parents, Gabriel and Elsa, were arrested and deported to the Theresienstadt ghetto and later to Auschwitz. The only survivors were Viktor Frankl and his sister, Stella. After the war, Viktor Frankl returned to Vienna, to psychotherapeutic practice and to a university teaching career. His books have enjoyed tremendous international success, and he has been a Visiting Professor at universities around the world.
