ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Jeanette Winterson

Jeanette Winterson was born in Manchester in 1959. Considered one of the most original voices in English literature to emerge in the 1980s, she gained immediate notoriety with her first book, Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit (Oranges are not the only fruit., Bico de Pena, 2005) a semi-autobiographical novel inspired by his deeply religious upbringing.
Throughout her career she has been distinguished with numerous awards, among which the following stand out: Whitbread Prize for First Novel, the E. M. Forster Prize or the BAFTA, having also been awarded the Order of the British Empire, and made fellow from the Royal Society of Literature.
She writes for various publications, maintaining a weekly column in Guardian, and she is a professor of Creative Writing at the University of Manchester.
