ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Emmanuel Guibert

Guibert, born in 1964 in Paris, after studying Literature, went to the École Hourdé and then to the Arts Déco school for his long studies... of six months. Called by the professional world, he produced his first album, "Brune," which took seven years to complete, discovering, in the meantime, the world of illustration and storyboarding for film. The release of this album in 1992 by Albin Michel introduced him to a small circle of young illustrators seeking to renew the world of comics. From his reunion with the alternative publisher L'Association, a series of stories as rich as they are astonishing were born in the magazine Lapin. At this publisher, he would be responsible for the two volumes of "La Guerre d'Alan," a graphic novel adaptation of the biographical narrative of an American soldier during World War II. This relationship with L'Association allowed him to collaborate with names such as Frédéric Boilet, Emile Bravo, Christophe Blain, and Joann Sfar. It was with the latter that he decided to embark on the art of a multifaceted mummy in the streets of late 19th-century London, in "La Fille du Professeur," published in 1997 by Dupuis in the "Humour Libre" collection. The virtuosity of this work earned him the "l'Alph'Art Coup de Coeur" and "René Goscinny" awards the following year at the Angoulême Festival. In May 2000, the remarkable fantasy adventure, "Capitaine Écarlate," with a script by David B., was published in the Aire Libre collection by Dupuis. Finally, and again with Sfar writing the script, in 2001 he began the saga of a young Jewish man in Judea, 2000 years ago. With "Les Olives Noires," Guibert and Sfar present an exciting, fair, and modern narrative for Dupuis' "Repérages" collection about a crucial period in our history.
