Knut Hamsun

PRÉMIO NOBEL DA LITERATURA 1920

Knut Hamsun (1859¿1952) nasceu em Gudbrandsdalen e cresceu na pobreza em Hamarøy, na Noruega. Publicou o seu muito aclamado romance Fome (1890), ao qual se seguiram Mistérios (1892), Pan (1894), Victoria (1898) e Frutos da Terra (1917) — obras-primas do início da modernidade na Literatura, o que lhe valeu a atribuição do prémio Nobel.
Figura controversa, Hamsun conheceu tanto a glória literária quanto, no final da sua vida, o mais aceso repúdio dos seus contemporâneos, o qual se ficou a dever às simpatias do autor pelo regime nazi. Terminada a guerra, tais posições valeram-lhe o julgamento por traição. Acabaria os seus dias na mais completa pobreza.
