ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Sarah Kane

She was born in London on February 3, 1971, to journalist parents. BLASTED, her first play, premiered in January 1995 (at the Royal Court Theatre) directed by James Macdonald. PHAEDRA'S LOVE was her second, commissioned by the Gate Theatre and premiered in May 1996, directed by Sarah Kane herself. This was followed by CLEANSED, directed by James Macdonald in April 1998, and Crave in August of the same year, written under the pseudonym Marie Kelvedon and directed at the Paines Plough Theatre by Vicky Featherstone. She also staged Georg Büchner's WOYZECK. She died in London on February 20, 1999. In July 2000, 4.48 PSYCHOSIS premiered (at the Royal Court), directed by James Macdonald. She wrote a television script, SKIN (Channel Four/British Screen). His work has recently attracted the interest of a wide range of directors, including Peter Zadek, Bernard Sobel, Jean-Marie Patte, Barbara Nativi, and Thomas Ostermeier.
