ABOUT THE AUTHOR

John Holt

John Holt (1927-1985), a specialist in early childhood education, was an eminent educator, researcher, and driving force behind educational reform. His name was chosen to inaugurate a new collection, entitled *Guidelines*, which will focus on clarifying issues concerning children and their development, aimed at parents, educators, and teachers alike. Inevitably—and increasingly so—required by all who question the nature of learning, John Holt wrote ten books that became celebrated and were translated into several languages. He is still considered one of the great mentors who led to the profound changes that occurred within the family regarding the educational process of children.
