Alix Christie cresceu na zona de San Francisco Bay e é autora, jornalista e profissional de tipografia. Aprendeu as artes da tipografia como aprendiz de dois mestres tipográficos californianos. Como jornalista de longa data, Christie contribuiu para variadas publicações, incluindo o San Francisco Chronicle, o Guardian of London, o Washington Post e Salon.com.
