ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Eric Carle

Eric Carle (June 25, 1929, Syracuse, New York, 1929 – May 23, 2021, Northampton, Massachusetts) was the author of more than 70 books, Eric Carle began illustrating in 1967, after working in an advertising agency. He studied at the prestigious art school "Akademie der Bildenden Künste", in Germany, where he lived in his childhood. He returned to the U.S. in 1952, where he worked as a graphic designer at "The New York Times". His first book was 1,2,3 to the Zoo (1968), which was followed by "The Very Hungry Caterpillar". He was awarded the prizes of the International Children's Book Fair of Bologna, the Association of Children's Booksellers and the American Library Association. Eric Carle said: "I believe that the transition from home to school is the second greatest trauma of childhood; The first, certainly, is to be born. In both cases we exchange a warm and protective environment for an unknown one. I believe that children are creative by nature and capable of learning. In my books I try to minimize this fear, replace it with a positive message. I want to show them that learning is really fascinating and fun."
