ABOUT THE AUTHOR

James Baldwin

James Baldwin was born in New York City in 1924, in the Harlem neighborhood, where he grew up and studied. He left for Paris in 1948, fleeing the racism and homophobia that were rampant in his country. He lived in that city for almost a decade, becoming politically involved with left-wing movements, interacting with European and American artists, and dedicating himself to writing. He distinguished himself early on as a novelist, essayist, poet, and playwright.
Alongside his literary work, he distinguished himself as one of the most influential voices in the Civil Rights Movement and the gay liberation movements. He was, in fact, the first African-American artist to appear on the cover of the magazine. TeamIn 1953, he published his first novel, which was enthusiastically received by critics. Being one of the most iconic figures of the 20th century, his work was first published in Portugal only in 2018 by Alfaguara, which has already published his novels. If this street could talk, If you say that on the mountain, Giovanni's room, Another country, Tell me how long ago the train left., as well as the volumes of tests Next time, the fire and Notes from a son of the landJames Baldwin died in 1987 in the south of France, a year after being named a Knight of the French Legion of Honor.
