Um prodígio totalmente inesperado

Esta biografia, escrita no início dos anos setenta por um inglês, não é um trabalho de pouca relevância, sobretudo no que toca à época em que Pessoa viveu em Durban, na África do Sul, onde seu padrasto era cônsul. Mas, em relação aos múltiplos outros aspectos da vida de Pessoa, também é obra relevante, pois fornece pistas importantes ao leitor de hoje, para este poder apreciar a genialidade do poeta modernista. A edição da «tinta da china» é muito cuidada e complementa o manuscrito com informações a que o seu autor não tinha acesso, quando ele escreveu a biografia.
