ABOUT THE AUTHOR

João Teixeira Lopes

João Teixeira Lopes is a sociologist by profession and passion. He has published around thirty books, alone or in co-authorship, and more than a hundred book chapters and articles in fields such as culture, education, emigration, and social inequalities. He works in the Department of Sociology at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto, where he is a Full Professor and coordinator of the Institute of Sociology. He believes in a Sociology that does not shy away from fundamental questions ("This knowledge for what? This knowledge for whom?") and which he likes to define as the solidarity-based possibility of imagining the lives of others and our own as other within an unequal society.
