Paul Ricoeur (1913-2005) was one of the greatest French philosophers and thinkers of the post-war period. He taught at several universities (Strasbourg, Sorbonne, Nanterre, Louvain, Chicago) and wrote a vast and multifaceted body of work, with important contributions to various fields, most notably ethics, hermeneutics, phenomenology, psychoanalysis, history, literary theory, critical theory, political philosophy, and biblical studies.
