As a foreigner, I needed something authoritative to consult when I had a doubt on Portuguese proverbs and I also needed a good tool for learning them. This extraordinary book is well organized, well designed and has an excellent index; so, it is easy to consult to answer a specific question. Also, it is written in an informative, jargon-free style that is accessible and easy to understand. The 409 proverbs presented are elucidated with written examples of the proverb used in various contexts. These contextual examples are taken from a wide variety of sources ranging from literature, political speeches, telenovelas, and the local media. This variety of sources makes for interesting, informative and sometimes even humorous reading. Furthermore, the selection of proverbs presented was based on a statistical frequency analysis of the corpus of Portuguese proverbs, which means the reader is exposed to the most important proverbs. This book is actually so good that I am actually reading it from cover-to-cover. This book is entirely in Portuguese. Great book!
