ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Enki Bilal

Enki Bilal was born in Yugoslavia in 1951. At the age of 10, he traveled with his family to Paris. He briefly studied Fine Arts and in 1972 published his first story – "Le Bol Maudit" – in the newspaper "Pilote". His meeting with Pierre Christin was decisive for his career, and it was for a script by this author that he drew his first album, "The Cruise of the Forgotten," in 1975. From 1976 onwards, he collaborated with the magazine "Metal Hurlant," and in 1980 he wrote his first major work as a scriptwriter and author for the newspaper Pilote: "The Fair of the Immortals." In 1982, he designed part of the sets for Alain Resnais' film "La Vie est un Roman," and in 1983, with the release of "The Hunt" (script by Christin), Bilal finally established himself as one of the most renowned realistic comic book artists of contemporary times. In 1990 Humanoids Associated They reissued the entirety of his works initially published by Dargaud. In 1993, the final volume of the "Nikopol Trilogy, Cold Equator" was considered the best book of the year, an unprecedented work in the history of comics where all genres are mixed. In 1996, he signed "Mémoires d'Autres Temps," an expanded reissue of "Bol Maudit" and "Crux Universalis." Besides comics, where his name is revered, Bilal is known in the film world, having directed his first film, Bunker Palace Hotel, in 1989, followed by "Thykho Moon" in 1997.
