ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Lewis Trondheim

Born in 1964, Lewis Trondheim is now recognized as one of the greatest creators of French-speaking comics. After studying advertising graphic arts, he met Jean-Christophe Menu at a conference, which opened his eyes to a different way of making comics. After creating a fanzine on his own, he joined the staff of Labo magazine and, in 1990, co-founded L'Association with Menu, Stanislas, Mattt Konture, Killoffer and David B., a label that would revolutionize the European comics scene. Prolific and eager for challenges, Lewis Trondheim embarked on a 500-page historical improvisation, Lapinot et les carrotes de Patagonie. In this extraordinary volume, Trondheim's style shines through; his love for the great classics of Franco-Belgian comics, a deconstructive line of animals, a sense of refined dialogue and an unbridled soap opera fantasy. In 1997, he began a titanic series with Joann Sfar: Donjon, a comic and fantastic epic, something between The Muppet Show and Conan the Barbarian. After numerous creations, he launched the publishing label Shampooing at Éditions Delcourt, a modern and inventive collection. In 2006, Lewis Trondheim received the Angoulême Grand Prix and designed the "Fauve" (wild animal), the official mascot of the festival. From 2008, he invested in the Journal Spirou magazine, where he created several series. Not to mention the multifaceted series L'atelier Mastodonte, with a dozen authors, or Panique en Atlantique, an "author" Spirou illustrated by Fabrice Parme. In 2024, Lewis Trondheim faced another legend, the Marsupilami, and takes him on a great adventure against the backdrop of the Spanish Conquest, in El Diablo, wonderfully brought to life by the colorful drawings of Alexis Nesme.
