ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Ana Hatherly

Ana Hatherly was born on May 8, 1929, in Porto. She graduated in Germanic Philology from the Faculty of Letters of the University of Lisbon and received her doctorate in Hispanic Studies from the University of California, Berkeley. Her extensive work includes poetry, fiction, essays, translation, performance, film, and visual arts. An avant-garde poet, she was a prominent member and theorist of the Portuguese Experimental Poetry group. Her works stand out. Frenetic Eros (1968), Rilkeana (1999), or the set of texts gathered in Herbal teas, a job that stayed with her until the end of her life. She passed away on August 5, 2015.
