Anne Brontë

Anne Brontë was born on January 17, 1820, in West Yorkshire, England. As the daughter of a poor Irish clergyman in the Church of England, Anne Brontë spent most of her early years with her family in the parish of Haworth in West Yorkshire. She left Haworth to become a governess between 1839 and 1845, after spending many years at a boarding school. Before publishing her first book of poetry, together with her sisters, Anne spent most of her life working. She and her sisters, who also used pseudonyms, were well known in the London literary community when, in 1848, they finally spoke out publicly about their use of male pseudonyms. Anne Brontë had long been celebrated by literary critics for her portrayal of sexism and violence against women in Victorian Britain. The youngest of the three Brontë sisters is, even today, widely regarded as the author of the first truly revolutionary feminist book. The republication of his works was interrupted by his sister Charlotte after her tragic death from latent tuberculosis in 1849, at the age of 29. For this reason, Anne Brontë is often ignored in favor of her more celebrated sisters.
