ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Georges Perec

Georges Perec (1936-1982) was a prominent French novelist, filmmaker, and essayist. The son of Polish Jews murdered by Nazis, he found solace in literature and psychoanalysis to cope with his survivor traumas. After studying Sociology and History at the Sorbonne, he made his fiction debut with... Things (1965), and the success of Life — How to Use It (The Médicis Prize, 1978) led him to dedicate himself exclusively to writing. In 1967, he joined the OuLiPo, by Raymond Queneau, a group dedicated to experimentation and the search for new literary forms. "A unique personality," according to Italo Calvino, Georges Perec is one of the most original and eclectic writers of the 20th century.
