ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Emmanuel Bove

Emmanuel Bove (Paris, 1898-1945), pseudonym of Emmanuel Bobovnikoff, is one of the great French novelists of the 20th century. The son of a Russian exile, he spent his turbulent childhood and adolescence between Paris, Geneva, and England. In 1924, he published his first novel, My friends, which achieved resounding success. Acclaimed by writers such as Colette, Beckett, Rilke, and Gide, he received the prestigious prize. Figuire In 1928, his literary output reached a frenetic pace, with more than twenty works published. In 1942, he left France, which had already been occupied by the Nazis, and went to Algiers where he wrote his last novels. He died in Paris in 1945.
